HIV counselling and testing is a crucial first step in reaching out to individuals living with HIV and AIDS. Since HIV infection can be latent (existent but not yet developed or manifested) for up to ten years, many people who are HIV-positive remain unaware of their status for a number of years before the actual onset of visible symptoms. The HCT Management Programme is delivered by the clinical staff of Sublime Healthcare who have extensive experience in the delivery of HIV disease management programmes. The programme follows the standards of care as prescribed by the HIV Clinicians Guidelines for the management of HIV.
VCT Site Screening:
Identify employees infected with HIV by performing screening tests and creating HIV awareness through workplace screening and site visits.
HIV Wellness Programme:
Registration of HIV positive employees on the HIV Wellness Programme in order to provide education and counselling to the HIV positive employees about their condition, lifestyle and how to prevent the transmission of the virus. The HIV programme helps employees manage their condition optimally by monitoring the progression of their condition and ensuring that their immune system is protected. This programme is delivered to employees through a telephonic counselling service by nurses trained in HIV management.
Other services include follow-up telephone calls to the HIV positive employees to remind them to visit their doctor regularly, appropriate pathology tests and follow-up to ensure employees remain compliant to their antiretroviral treatment (ART). The nurses also monitor CD4 cell counts in HIV positive individuals in order to ascertain whether they are eligible for the initiation of antiretroviral treatment.
In addition, the HIV service provides a basket of care to all HIV positive employees registered on the HIV programme to help them manage their condition. This basket of care includes doctor’s consultations, pathology tests, dispensing of antiretroviral treatment and multivitamins.
The ultimate objective is to ensure that employees can live a normal healthy life, feel well and be productive at work. The programme covers the cost of the doctor’s consultations, pathology tests, ART and multivitamins.
